One of the most interesting and emotionally difficult observations I have made while watching my son from birth through his first 6 months, is how terrified he was of being alone.  His whole world of awareness was of myself and his father…to be separated from us, in away, was to lose his own sense of self.  It is his first fear…ever-present and overwhelming. Creating this portrait confronted my own vestigial fears of loss and abandonment that linger on as an adult.  Although ‘aloneless’ has been a constant theme in my work…I have never been confronted with it as such a pure and instinctual force.
